Focus
I was driving in the car this morning and as I was cruising along the 101 Freeway. I started thinking about the day I was going to have and how I needed to focus. I can have a hard time focusing with the distractions of an office; with phone calls and emails and customers walking in.
As I was thinking about that I passed by a field that was being cleared by goats.
How long are the goats there? Are they for rent? Does the field owner own them? Are there any baby goats out there? Baby goats are called kids. Why kids? Do they ever escape? What was I thinking about again? Oh yeah. Focus.
Focus is tough for anyone. Our minds ricochet from this idea to that, bouncing from memories to tasks and random thoughts. In order to be successful we need to be able to focus all of our strength. All of our energy. Take all that we can and put it into a single task.
For maximum productivity, we need to deeply focus.
Here are some key points on focus.
1. Breath Awareness: Deep, intentional breaths will anchor your mind and help you center.
2. Eliminate Distractions: Turn off phone notifications, white noise can often be helpful(in earbuds if you’re at work.)
3. Focus on a Single Task: Multitasking will divide your concentration.
4. Set Clear Objectives: Define what you are trying to get done.
5. Build A Routine: Establish a routine so that the rhythm of it all trains your mind to settle in.
6. Manage Stress: Stress equals chaos. Create a calm mental space for more focus.
7. Practice Regular Breaks: Don’t overwhelm yourself.
Now, with all of that said I got sidetracked while writing this brief article by the story of a Mayor from Fort Wayne named Harry Baals(pronounced Balls). So yeah it’s tough.
