Taking Action When We Don't Have Direction

What do you do when you want to be productive but you don't know where to turn or what to do? Every morning I want to check something off of a list, to get ever closer to the goal of becoming the person that I long to be. To have the financial freedom that I desire to have and some mornings, I feel like I'm here ready to work, but there is no work to be done.

Most mornings, the day is already full of obstacles to overcome. The day starts with those monotonous actions of daily life, cleaning around the house. Preparing for the day, rushing off to work. The actions themselves need to happen and so they do. They eat up time and they don't let our brains focus on daily tasks.

Other days, I find myself with time and quiet and thoughts that scream so loud because they are not being drowned out by the roar of chaos is a life full of kids and duty.

So now that I have the time. What do I do? Where do I focus this energy?

Mind map.

Start to write down words. Just list.

Jot down notes and thoughts and ideas and tasks. All of the things that you want to think about, that you would love to work on. That you want for your life and in your life. You may not be able to tackle a fraction of these items, but at least you will get to see a picture of where and what your brain is after.

Make a list.

Make heads and tails of your ramblings and try to put them into an order that will give you a direction. Most important to least, easiest to most difficult. Whatever you think will help you to be the most focused, directed and can get the most done that you think is important.

Remember.

The things that are easiest to get done are usually the simplest. Taking out the trash is necessary and will feel good to check off of a list but it's not of financial value. Meaning it won't get you to the end goal that you desire. So things like that get checked off without much fanfare. Just do it and move on.

Take the action. Even if your tired, or bored or not in the right frame of mind. Truth be told we are very rarely in the right state of mind. So we just need to learn to do it anyway.
